Hello and welcome to Sex and The Pity. My name is Dating Dolly, for the purposes of this blog at least. Can you imagine if my parents had actually named me Dating Dolly! I’d have been in for some serious name-calling at school.
So, about me. Well, you’ll find out all about who I am as you endeavour to read this blog. As for where I live… well, I’m kinda trapped inbetween two worlds – the one where I’m a super-independent gal living the single lifestyle and lapping up the eternal freedom it brings with it – and the one where I long to return home to the man of my dreams at the end of each day and wrap myself in his arms.
So, Sex and The Pity is an expression of what it’s like to live between these two worlds – the fun of the dating game, the misery of the lonely nights in, the hilarity of a drunken fumble, the embarrassment of getting dumped and the pity thrown your way every time you use the word “single”.
So, while I’m not at all unhappy with my single status, I wouldn’t be distraught if Mr Right knocked on my door tomorrow. But I do see myself as a champion of the single folk; we’re a dying breed forced to watch our mates – one by one – disappear as they cross the border from Singledom into Coupledom.
So here I am, stuck in limbo - where on one hand I want all my friends to find eternal love and live happily ever after, and on the other hand I want them to remain single and free to chase boys, party at short notice, scoff icecream over girly DVDs and exchange “we hate men” chit-chat into the early hours.
So, while I’m neither actively looking for love, nor acively dodging it, I am living life as a single gal should and occasionally dipping my red polished toenail into the dating game.
